Thousands killed as monsoon rains flood the roads of Karachi in Pakistan. Obstruction in roads and power cuts slowed down the everyday life. Pakistan doesn't expect such levels of rainfall and therefore lacks an efficient drainage system. As a result of this, when rains do hit Pakistan there's no where for the water to escapse. Once again, water accumalated on the roads beofre splashing through buildings and houses, taking with it objects as large as cars.

The light drainage which exists was overfilled in the first hour of the rains, the water then standing on the street ends up as a mixture from sewege water and rain water when gutters overflow.

As powercables were cut, they landed into the puddles of water which occupied roads, ellectricuting thousands. Another major cause of death was due to the amount of people who were involved in car crashes which invloved brake failures and walking into very deep gutters as they couldn't be seen.

The pakistan government has sent water pump trucks into the city which are doing the best job they can, however in a season when rain is seen almost everyday, this procedure can take some time.
